Makarapa

Country: South Africa

Description: Makarapas were sculpted from miner’s hard hats by rival soccer supporters, to display their loyalty to their club and to celebrate their passion for the beautiful game. Today the makaraba is worn throughout the country by enthusiastic soccer fans and is a unique South African icon. Michael Souter is the founder of the Makoya Makaraba project.
