Eritrea a Nation Held Hostage

Isaias Afewerki was hailed by Eritreans as the great liberator of the people when he became the nation’s first president in 1993. He represented a new breed of an African leader; young, charismatic, and determined to build a prosperous future. He brought hope to a nation that had for so long appeared hopeless. Isaias started to reconstruct the nation, promised to respect human rights, hold free and fair elections, and build a strong economy with jobs for all. Eritreans were to be rewarded for their struggle. But these rewards never came. Human rights groups say Eritreans are being imprisoned, tortured and killed in increasing numbers. Some are held in shipping containers in 50-degree heat, others in solitary confinement or in underground cells. The fairy tale has turned into a nightmare.

Learning from your mistake is the best knowledg
I read all the comments what tell me: Stop their dream alive, divided n slauter us 2control our mind, history, cultur, resources...wake up!

The Scramble 4Africa: Berlin Conference of 1884-1885 Divide Africa the foreign ministers of fourteen European powers n the USA established ground rules 4the future exploitation "dark continent." Africans were not invited or made privy 2their decisions.

There is no such East African, Oromo, Kenya, Eritrean, Ethiopian...we r nigros, Africans, black...catch hell of racism poverty all over the world.

The only way we can break this cycle to live side by side and communicat in peacefull, respectfull way. Can we learn...? Europeans were the most barberic human biengsin the face of planet family but they build unity here they are controling everything we had and making us hopeles human...

Africa is the richest continet on the planet in culture, history, resources but we scatter all over the world...live in donation in our own resources. Do research what does Europe make the richest...

my or my do i LOVE my PRESIDENT!!
Firstly, I would like to ask who is this 'research' funded by??? who is behind 'human rights watch'?? i Think its right to assume that everyone understands where iam getting at... The point of the matter is , President Issaias Afwerki is a legend, a visionary, a nationalist who loves his country and the people. These 'Human right' watch people or whatever you call them are people who are funded indirectly and directly by SPECIAL INTERESTS GROUPS who hate the idea of UNITY, SOLIDARITY & NATIONALISM. these special interest groups control governement through funding and even control your WOYANE puppet government.

Why do people criticize a man who believes that a nations resources should be used for the benefits of its own people and not foreign powers??? Why do people criticize a man belives in self reliance, that preaches the love of work and self sustanance??? I am so appalled to see fellow Eritreans in Ethiopia meeting to voice their decent and colloborate with the enemy WOYANE.... Eritrea needs clean water, food security, better health services and transportation infrastructure and facilities all of which in thanks to goovernment is making a rapid change.....
Eritrea was called the 'tiger' Economy of Africa in 1997, maybe thats why the Americans got their puppet Woyane regime to start a 'Border' conflict... a conflict which both sides agreed it will abide by the UN's decision as 'Final AND Binding'... Could you tell why the Woyane are not out of badme then??????
May God Protect our Beloved President and continue to give courage to the Eritrean People now and Forever, AWET NE HAFASH

The problem is the people of Ethiopia has not found the right mirror to se themselves. They are using the old one which they got from America. Time has gone may dear Ethiopians! You are living in oblivion! Please see around! Time has changed. Dont blem Eritrea and Eritreans for your failure. The Eritrean people dont use grages, lament and hate. They are doing their businnes like bees do in their haives. " Iti gemel ymrsh it kelbi ynebhhh! WE like Isayas he is one of us, WE brought him to power and he is our president. Wake Up Eritreans and Focus inside
Dear Eritreans:

The time is up ! What are you waiting for ? If you are real Eritrean, it is time to respond and to come together and bury Issayas and Higdef for one and for all. Do not blame Eritrea's to any body outside, focus in the inside ! If we do this, I am sure we Eritreans will prevail.

Thanks !

''Stand Up''
Isn't it time we Eritreans start thinking outside the box. Whether we believe it or not our beloved nation is deep in crises today and it's there to be witnessed unless we don't want to look at it..
From the human rights voilation to the absence of the freedom of expression, the injustice, the summery execution, the detention without the due process of the law and worse the disappearances without a trace are all in our plate happening to our people as we speak.
My fellow Eritreans,
What happened to the dream that our selfless brothers and sisters shed thier blood for or is this why we paid a heavy price for simply to replace Amharic speaking Mengistu with Tigrigna speaking one?If we realy love our people and our nation, NOW is the time to save them.

Unfortunately the eritrean situation will remain blik as long as the eritrean bandas continue to deny their Ethiopianess. This is a curse. This is justice under God. No matter how many times they try to spin the reality, Ethiopia is a blessed country and all her enemies are destined to be obliterated. This white worshipers banda elements are no different. The latest realty in Eritrea is as follow:
the price of Teff i.e if you are lucky is $8,000 nakfa
a cup of Tea $40.00
all eritreans above 8th grade are assigned to sawa camp at Nakfa to continue their education their and only will make it to asmara, if and when they pass 12th grade. Otherwise they are condemned to become a permanent soldier with a meager daily ration and NO salary.
Long Live Isayas Afeworki and his party !

How about Ogaden And Ethiopia? Are they not in Hostage?
The media and the world started to speak againest the regime in Eritrea but kept silence the atocitity and hiden genocide in Ogaden and hichaking Ethiopian people, what is happening in Ogaden is nothing compareable to any parts in the world, so it is time for the media and world to break the silence and stop the genocide

Dear Brothers from Eritrea,

i think it is time to say the truth insteady of narrating false events. it is so clear that Eritrea was fallen under the Italian Colony when "Ras Alula, African Military Genertal" refused to go and fight the invaders soon after the death of " King of Kings Yohans IV" of Ethiopia. for this you can read different histrorical books. it is also clear that Ethiopia has never, ever started any war with any one of the Inter-State wars it faced in histroy, including the recent one with Eritrea. and it is a historical and factual truth that it always defeat its enamies and stood victorious.

for the currenet problem with our brothers and sisiters in Eritrea, i think it is not a matter of enjoying life in the west and propageting, truthless and old dated in fasion, which in return is helpless to the innocent people of Eritrea at home.

It is also time for the entair Eritrean citizens to seat and discuss about the grave situation in Eritrea. It is so because of a handful people of the leadership of dictator Isayas Afeworki. Eritrean brothers you need to stop giving so many excuses, which are most of the time attached to Ethiopia, a country going through the right direction and say enough is enough and get rid of Isayas the dictator. It is your home work now, if you think you are ok with your dictator Isayas, it will be your choice but make sure don’t interfere in the internal affairs of Ethiopia.

Emancipate your self
Surprisingly, why do Eritera always has to peg its failure with Ethiopia. Why do always compare them selves with Ethiopia. Is it not an indentity crisis. Is it not a complex.Ethiopia is better off now by getting rid of its Gangren (Former usless province ).Is it not an open secret that Eritera started to sell its lands to over come the financial problem.Assab,Camel's drinking pot ,to Iran,Dahlak to Quatar...
So Guys you choose to be indpendent, no matter it was in Vanity, PM Melse awarded to you guys though the majority public was not for it. The gentle , discplined and sincer ethiopians respcted the decistion. Now it seems that you cannot survive by your own as a result inolvved in human trafficking, blackmarket, finanical trasfer, all down the road.wake up free up your mind this time from slavery of your thinking not inherited from Italy but from Isayes bulid up your country ,recover the path to reintegrate to the rest of the world, not only Ethiopia. You sould say Yes we can emancipate our selves from Slavery,Isolation, immigration, and failed state.

Africa is stil a hostage of the ugly western politic
Not Eritrea is an hostage of the gentil eritrean leader, but Africa and specially some leaders of the horn of Africa like Meles Zanawi, Kbeki of Kenya or Museveni are the hostage of the ugly western politic toward africa. You can't fool us with article. We know who made this and why. The real motivation is the bring Eritrea under the control of the politic of the USA and their puppet in the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia). The case for this conflict is not Somalia, but the Demarcation of the border of the two countrys (Eritrea/Ethiopia). Before demarcation will done, will never peace in the Horn of Africa. Thatsway have the USA and UK to force their puppet regime in Ethiopia to accept the Demarcation before talk about any other problems. Again, you can't fool us with this article. Sanction against Eritrea is a joke, bacause eritrean Politic is immune against the ugly werstern politic of IMF or World Bank. Wait and drink tea and history will teach you again.

One of the worlds worst human rights abusers? ANNA LITTLE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH.

TAKE A LOOK AT WHATS GOING ON IN YOUR COUNTRY ETHIOPIA (SINCE THAT IS WHERE YOU ARE BASED IN www.annalittle.com) AT THE GENOCIDE THAT IS GOING ON THERE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT9ySTffO8Q

President and Founder of Genocide Watch accuses the Ethiopian government of a mass scale genocide in the Ogaden region.

Are you really going to stand here and tell us that ERITREA is one of the worst human rights abusers?

Criminals must come before international court
Eritreans never won Ethiopians but it was the TPLF who won the war against the Derg In Ethiopia.
Eritrean people never have had confidence for the EPLF led by Essayas but accepted it as reconciliation hoping that they can change but they become worse and more criminal agains the Eritrean people. There is no Eritrea but Essayas and his cliques with some worshippers i diaspora.

Fact
This is already known fact repeating same kind of story does not bring any solution to the people of Eritrea it is now high time for the international community to act against the barbaric rule of Shaebiya before it completely destroys the people and the country. Action should replace talks immediately !!! else talking repeatedly this stories is useful just for media consumption and is boring to us.[

Good documentary. I wish freedom for the Eritreans. Is it true that the current leaders of eritrea are not real eritreans?

I just wanted to point out a falacy in the commentary. The commentator in the video said that Eritrea defeated Ethiopia. During the period you mentioned, Eritrea was not a nation. It was, hence, Eritreans and Ethiopians together fought against and deposed a common enemy: the then Ethiopian dictator. So you are misrepresenting a fact.
There is no way Eritreans could defeat Ethiopians under any circumstances in million years. That is why they are using proxy.
Your statment would have been factual if you say, for example, 'Ethiopia defeated Eritrea in the border war' , plain fact!
Please familiarize yourself with historical facts before you start confusing yourself and your audience.
I would appreciate it if you can prove me wrong with facts(pease)

A cry from masters of modern slavery
Actually, I liked the article. It is written very well, touched few true points, both from the past and now. Despite the support of the American army and the USSR, consecutively, both halves of the war was won.
It wasn't good news to these masters of modern slavery, the western world. A group of fighters who beat the communists using their own principles. A group, where it's army was taught litteracy lessons In hiding, in between battles and every oportunity. A group that started equality movement for women in Africa. A true people's front that had 99% support, that implemented the winning mentality in it's rulling after independence.
If it wasn't for the interuption of Ethiopia with the support of the western world, the steady development this country had started wouldn't have come to a halt.
Had the big boys ( USA and GB) interfered and made
sure the ruling of the international Borders court was passed; we woulnt be Reading the above article. Fortunately for the witer, Ethiopia received even bigger but quoted support from both big players and thier allies.
We, the fortunate ones, who think we have rights, it may come as a shock to hear those stories above.
Torture can be anything and certain punishments are accepted in certain places. It's a hidden fact that many of us know that the USA holds a record in torturing prisoners. Yet still, a lot of you support them as a rightious state.
I am not denying there is torture in Eritrea, but to a certain degree. The type of punishments also too vary and depend on the environment we live in.

A message to all Eritrean Reading this would be, there are lots of things wrong in Eritrea that can be fixed amongst ourselves with a strong unity, strength and assertiveness. This can only happen with the support if our government, but asserting in the correction we believe should happen. I must also emphasize the positive changes I've receny seen in the rural areas of Eritrea. Where everyone is being educated, nomads been ordered to stay still in order to receive medical cover and a chance to educate and create netter future for thier children.

To those of you non Eritreans, who believe in the above article; please flock to the parliament square , show your support to the USA & GB's modern colonialism, and be ambassadors if a new/second Iraq disaster, guards of Guantanamo and land lords of Afganistan.

Condolences: my prayer and heart goes to the British, US and Eritrean families who lost their loved ones as the consequnces of the Iraq, Afganistan and Eritrean war.
May God bless thier souls.

Hypocrisy
Talking about international rule of law that many like to point out, where were the so called world community and Media/Journalists like yourself When :
19,000 Eritreans died defending their country from Ethiopia that wanted to illegally occupy a sea outlet and used more than 100,000 soldiers as canon fodders (dead) Read Guardian report from that time
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/1999/may/18/ethiopia
The so called international world community refused to enforce their own UN ruling passed by the Hague based independent boundary commission .
The bush administration tried to reverse the international rule of law in the UN. http://www.slate.com/id/2178793/
The bush administration illegally funded and dumped huge amount of arms shipment for Ethiopia from North Korea to kill Eritreans.

What rights have you got even to mention the name Eritrea ?

---------

Here are some few headlines that you do not usually see in the world media. So please explain to me why crimes worse than Darfur is getting the same reaction from world media and rebuke from democratic countries. ? Could it be because of their complicity in funding the torture, starvation and all the heinous acts ?
