Germany advanced trade interests there and concluding a treaty with several tribes, a new state was born Tanganyika. Colonial rule was passed on to the British after world war one but as the society matured in the 1950’s a school teacher, Julius Nyerere organized the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) and the independence movement was on.
