Dergham was a young Shia Muslim fighter during Lebanon’s civil war, before seeking asylum in the US and turning into an all-American teen. Now back in Beirut and living in a Hezbollah stronghold, Derek is torn between his love for America and his support for the aims of Hezbollah; he is, he says, ready to fight again in defence of Hezbollah if needed.
